Sublime Remains (Featuring The Insect Asylum)
Sunday, October 20th - 7:00 PM
When two bikers crash into a deer on a desolate road, they are taken in by a cultish group of desert-people who express and sustain themselves through fashion. Told through a blend of mediums and visual styles, Sublime Remains is a fully realized meditation on the whimsical work of Chicago fashion designer Av Grannan, as well as a reflection of her creative process.
Sublime Remains is the unique and whimsical brand of wearable art created by Av Grannan. In collaboration with Av, Chicago based filmmaker Luke Hans produced and directed a film which attempts to build a conceptual world in which the fashion pieces are intrinsic to both the design and narrative. The film blends surrealism, nature, high fashion, and a DIY spirit, with artistic influences ranging from the paintings of Jean Miro to the films Rango and El Topo. However, none of this would have been possible if not for the collaboration with local taxidermist and business owner (The Insect Asylum) Nina Salem, who provided both living and taxidermied animals and insects which were featured in the film, as well as the various mopeds the bikers are seen riding.
Screening will include a live meet and greet with several of the animals featured including a possum, a snake and a spider!
